The Guild Part 2
Ah Guilds! you got to love them and the all the drama that they bring.
In a previous post I spoke about our first GM. This led to the break up of The Art Of Ten, and a new guild called Wipe Faster was born. Our new GM was a down to earth type of man. Nice and easy going.
I stopped becoming socially active, not for any particular reason, but because I was concentrating on other things with my Warlock, such as Achievement hunting. Also I was logging in quite late at night. I didn't want to commit to raiding, so I played when I could, without the worry of be /gkicked.
Every now and again I would log onto the website to see if there was anything new, but the website became quite dead. Nobody was posting anything, and I had nothing to post.
I knew the guild was struggling to make up raiding parties. This could be because it's the summer time, and people have holidays and children to worry about. I was available to raid, but I wasn't geared. I really really didn't want to have to do heroics etc, it just didn't appeal to me. I was becoming a little bored of my Warlock, and I wanted to have some fun with him instead of taking the more serious side of the game.
Also the guild was finding it difficult to recruit PvE players. Nobody was staying long enough, the main interest seemed to be PvP.
I understand that I contributed to the failure of the guild. I had become the silent member, and a guild is only as good as it's weakest member.
Last night I logged in a little earlier than usual, and I noticed guild chat was talking about our GM. I didn't want to butt into someone else's chat, but I understood something was wrong. There was talk of the guild moving realms, being renamed etc etc.... what had I missed?
This morning I went onto our website and found that the guild was indeed on the move. We were moving to the more PvE orientated realm of Twisting Nether.
Twisting Nether was my original home when I first started to play World of Warcraft. I only moved to Stormscale to join our re-roll guild. I would be quite happy to move back there.
In game tonight I found out that our nice down to earth GM, had vanished. Not in the missing person sense, but, he had not logged into the game in a long time and he had made no contact with anyone through Facebook or the Guild Website. I do remember a few weeks ago people were wondering where he was. Perhaps he was taking a little break from playing. He was allowed to do that of course, but as time went on the Guild was starting to suffer a little without an active GM. I found out that recently he deactivated his Facebook, and he had closed the Guild Bank.
This was unbelievable. This would be the second time that our Bank contents was stolen. I had quested so much, there was a lot of money in that bank that I had helped to put there. Others had gems and enchants that they had stock piled.
This shocked everyone but we won't be broken. Some of our members have been together from the very beginning. We have one of the nicest social guilds that I have come across. We have been through not just one, but now two guild breakdowns, and we will continue to stick together as we form our third guild.
It does make me wonder though if we underestimated our original GM. Perhaps the person we all chose to stick beside was in fact the wrong choice.
