Ganking
I once heard it asked if ganking was a form of cyber bullying. Isn’t that what PVP realms are all about? If you don’t want to be ganked then go play on a PVE realm. This is not always the case. A lot of people play on PVP to join particular guilds, or to play with their friends. They may not necessarily be interested on the PVP side of things.
I for one, am one of those people. I have no interest in PVP and as well as that I am fairly bad at it too. I joined Stormscale to be with my guild, and I have found myself to be cannon fodder to the Alliance. There is certainly no fun in it for me especially when I am trying to quest and I have a limited playing timeframe. To spend most of the time as a ghost makes me just want to log out of the game, and can end your day on a bad note. On many occasions in contested territory, I have quested alongside the Alliance without any hindrance.
Ganking is particularly prevalent in starting zones at higher levels, such as Outland and Nordrassil. To avoid this it’s possible to level through dungeons and battlegrounds, but I like to quest and meet the NPC’s behind the lore of the game. I also have no interest in ganking others for any reason, and I do my best to make a quick getaway should trouble arise.
So yes. For me and the way I like to play the game, ganking is forcing me to turn back from something I was doing, making me quit the game, or like now, making me take a break until they get bored and maybe go away. That is being bullied into doing something I don’t particularly want to do. Only the gankers themselves will say otherwise.

I HATE ganking. My first server was a PvP server - I joined it as a noob as it was the same server as my husband. I leveled to 85 (at the time) and thought being killed constantly was the game.
ReplyDeleteHowever, when leveling to 90 in MoP, I was wiser and was getting ganked constantly. It got to the point where I was spending more time dead than alive which was ridiculous.
I strongly believe that ganking is a form of online bullying. Fine, kill them once to show your prowess if you must, but corpse camping? No. Not fair at all.
Some of us newbies don't realise what PvP is, so why should they have to suffer because some idiots want to spoil the game?
I moved server in the end. Best £15 I ever spent!
